Smoke-free Regulations for England came into effect at six oclock on Sunday the 1st of July in 2007. the ban states that From this date smoking is no longer be permitted in any enclosed premises or vehicles that are open to the public, this includes public houses, restaurants and all places of work. However there are some exceptions like designated smoking rooms in hotels or residential nursing homes.
The penaly for the breaking of these regulations are as follows

- Employers/managers of the premises can also be fined £200 to £2500 if not paid within the correct timeframe. if they do not inforce the smoking ban
inforcment Obligations:
Must display signage at all entrances, in a visible place for all customers and employees.
Premises signage must contain a smoking prohibition sign of A5 size or larger and contain the wording “No Smoking. It is against the law to smoke in these premises”. Alternatives to the wording can be used when relating specifically to the premises itself (e.g. replace “these premises” with “this restaurant”).
All public transport and business vehicles that may carry more than one employee need to display a no smoking sign of at least 7cm diameter in each compartment that can carry passengers
